| Upset Info employees seek ‘third-party’ help | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 29: They do the firefighting for government but when it comes to their issues, the apparently looks the other way. Therefore, the employees of the Information Department today got the issue of their plight raised in Legislative Assembly through one of the most vocal legislators –of course not associated with the ruling coalition –and invited the Speaker’s attention for a word to the government. Member Legislative Assembly and State Secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist) Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami today used the occasion of Zero Hour to share with the house the plight of the employees of Information Department. The Chief Minister, who happens to be the Minister for Information, was incidentally not present in the House. A cross section of employees of the Information Department told Early Times on anonymity that they are made to work overtime but their seniors don’t care for their plight. “For top hierarchy in the department keeping Chief Minister and some selected ministers and bureaucrats is the only priority and they don’t have any time to sit back in office and look at issues of the department”, said an employee wishing not named. He said, “left with no option almost during every session we plead our case before the legislators and request them to take them up with the government”. He further added, “being junior in the hierarchy we don’t have access to the Chief Minister or the Information Secretary (who happens to the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister) and our bosses who are always around them don’t bother to take up our issues”. Moved over their plight, the Speaker of Legislative Assembly, Mohammad Akbar Lone today directed the government to take immediate steps for redressal of all genuine grievances of employees of Information Department. The directions was issued following Mr. M. Y. Tarigami’s demand of extending special incentives to the employees of Information Department, who he said are working extra hours on daily basis without observing even holidays. Incidentally, Tarigami is one among the only two MLAs who press handouts are released by the Information Department.
