Jammu, Aug 29: Senior BJP leader and a seasoned Parliamentarian Prof Chaman Lal Gupta today got a snub in the Legislative for, what Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar described, spoiling precious time of House for gaining publicity. The leader of BJP’s Parliamentary Party in the Assembly, Chaman Lal Gupta had to withdraw his resolution on compulsory voting after the Law Minister said that there was no constitutional merit in his arguments. Sagar today informed the Legislative Assembly that there is no provision in the Constitution of State for making voting compulsory. He said that people have every right to vote or not to vote in the democratic exercise, as there is no compulsion in this behalf. He said that such un-constitutional issues only spoil the precious time of the house, adding that these are raised for just playing to the gallery and gaining publicity. Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta later withdrew the resolution.
