| Press meet on J&K tourism | | Kashmir a safe tourist destination: Dilawar Mir | | NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 29 – Association of domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI) organized a ‘Press Meet’ in Ashok Hotel, New Delhi on September 29 to showcase the present scenario of tourism in Jammu and Kashmir that was experienced by ADTOI members who had gone with their families on study tour and also to find ways to boost tourist traffic for Jammu region by showcasing new tourist circuits like Shivakhori, Bhaderwah, Sanasar, Patnipot and many more places of tourist interest. Minister for tourism Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir, Secretary Tourism Mr. Nayeem Akhtar other senior officers of Tourism Department and galaxy of personalities from print and electronic media and members of ADTOI attended the meeting. Welcoming the Minister the president ADTOI Mr. Mukesh Jagga gave a brief description about the ADTOI which was constituted in 1996 with the aim of consolidation of the efforts of tour operators in promoting ‘Domestic Tourism’, promote regional tourism and newly developed destination circuits specially in remote rural areas. Mr. Jagga appreciated the efforts of the present coalition government under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad in promoting tourism in the strife torn state and instilling confidence in thousands of prospective indigenous as well as foreign tourists and thereby improving the overall economic condition of the Jammu and Kashmir state which bank heavily upon tourism trade for its revenue generation, and providing employment to hundreds and thousands of youth. Mr. Jagga making a special reference of the visit of the ADTOI team to the valley from August 2 to 6, 2006 on the invitation of the state government felt nostalgic of the hospitality of the government and safe, secure and comforts and the affection of people they encountered while visiting Srinagar, Pahalgam and Gulmarg and reiterated associations unclenching support and commitment to the government and the people of valley to infuse confidence among the travelers about the congenial atmosphere prevailing in the state. Secretary Tourism Mr. Nayeem Akhtar also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the various measures being taken by the state government in promoting tourism industry in each of the three regions of the state endowed with distinctive tourist appeal. He informed that steps are also afoot to attract tourism for smaller towns other than matros with special focus on students. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dilawar Mir appealed for concerted efforts and support from all specially the electronic and print media and all those associated with tourism to help make Kashmir the first destination on the world tourist map. Jammu and Kashmir provide ample scope for natural and adventure tourism besides pilgrimage and cultural. The three region with their destination. Geo-demotic, ethnic and cultural identities provides immense opportunities for tourist of different tastes. The present situation in the valley is as conducive and safe for visitors as in any other part of the country. The influx of foreign tourists in the state during the summer indicates of the favourable atmosphere and gives a clear message of the improved atmosphere. The misinformation campaign launched by certain elements towards off tourists needs to be fought jointly by all. The Minister informed that the Jammu and Kashmir Government is committed to make Jammu and Kashmir as nation’s number one tourist hub. He stressed the need for strong infrastructure and adequate central support. The Minister informed that the state government has constituted 12 development authorities in addition to already existing 4 of Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg and Patnitop with a view to maintain and develop tourist resorts. |
