| Rehearsal of annual Ram Lila held | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 30- Mahant Rameshwar Dass Ji of Purani Mandi, along with prominent social activist Rita Gupta, today inaugurated the rehearsal of annual Ram Lila in the premises of historical Dewan Mandir in presence of the stage artists and other prominent citizens. Mahant Rameshwar Dass, who was the chief guest on this occasion, said that Dewan Mandir has a religious as well as historical significance. It has the oldest stage where Ram Lila is being staged every year and this practice is centuries old. He said Dewan Mandir has the distinction of having artists of excellence. While famous film singer K.L. Sehgal started his career as a singer from Dewan Mandir stage, Om Parkash got popularity when he played as Sita in Ram Lila here. Not only this, the world famous bollywood star Prithvi Raj Kapoor also had the lead role in Aahuti, a stage drama. He said it is a matter of honour for him to inaugurate the rehearsal of Ram Lila at a place which has a history in it. Rita Gupta, while expressing her gratitude to the management for giving a chance to be part of this historical moment, said that places like Dewan Mandir have kept alive our rich social and religious values. Staging and witnessing of Ram Lila and other such plays can prove to be very useful for the artists she said adding that besides learning the moral values, they can get chance to associate themselves with it. Artists Ravi Kant Sharma playing Ram’s role, Kulbhushan Sharma as Ravana, Sanjiv Anand as Mareech and Amrik Singh as Nandi staged their performance in this rehearsal program. Natak Samaj President sat Pal Samotra, Secretary sat Pal Sharma, Co-Secretary Ramnik Gupta, Cashier Neeraj Sharma, Director Sarvpriya Chopra, Stage Manager Harbhajan Singh, Hall Manager Koushal Kumar and Dress manager Jagan Nath Sharma were also present on the occasion.
