| HOSHIAR SINGH’S KILLING | | Samba citizens call off hunger strike | | Early Times Report SAMBA, AUGUST 30 – On the assurance of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal’s of an expeditious probe into Hoshiar Singh and other killings in the militant attack in Samba that occurred on May 11, 2008, prominent citizens, representatives of various associations and former corporators led by Mr. Subash Singh Advocate today called off their 51 day long hunger strike. After having detailed interaction with the delegation, the Divisional Commissioner explained to them the present enquiry status of the case and sought their complete cooperation in an authentic and transparent probe into case. Dr. Kotwal assured the delegation that all their doubts about these inhumane killings would be cleared in the enquiry. Dr. Kotwal asked the SSP, Samba, Mr. Raghuvir Singh to personally interact with the prominent citizens and consider their suggestions and demands in the enquiry process. Earlier, the Divisional Commissioner convened a meeting with the district officers to review the development scenario of the district besides taking stock of preparations being made for 3rd District Development Board meeting to be held on 5 September, 2009 under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Tara Chand. District Development Commissioner, Samba, Mr. Saurabh Bhagat informed the Divisional Commissioner about the development process of the district besides apprising him of the deficiencies in infrastructure and impediments hampering the effective implementation of development projects. The Divisional Commissioner asked the officers to effectively pursue their project proposal for their early sanction so that the purpose of present coalition government of speedy development could be met. He also emphasized upon the need of optimum utilization of available latest technological innovations for fetching desired results from the development programmes. In view of dilapidated condition of Higher Secondary School, Samba, The Divisional Commissioner directed the concerned authorities to construct two additional rooms in the Kehli ground for accommodating the students of the school so as to avoid untoward incident.
