Bhagwat meets Advani again
8/30/2009 10:28:01 PM

Early Times Report
New Delhi, Aug 30: RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat had yet another meeting with Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani today, after which speculations were rife that the octogenarian BJP leader, who is under pressure to make way for a younger leadership, had made up his mind to quit, but the change will not be immediate and he would continue guiding the party.
Senior RSS leader Madan Das Devi, who along with Mr Suresh Soni was present in the meeting that took place over the breakfast, told newspersons that they discussed the current crisis in the BJP and expressed the hope that the party would emerge stronger. He, however, refused to admit that the Sangh was deciding the replacement of Mr Advani or the party's roadmap.
This was the second meeting of the Sangh Chief with Mr Advani after the former arrived in the Capital on August 27. He held a long meeting with Mr Advani last evening. Prior to that, Mr Bhagwat had met BJP president Rajnath Singh, search for whose replacement was also on.
Later, he met other leaders Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Venkaiah Naidu and Ananth Kumar. Last night, he had a second round of meeting with Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, who is close to the Sangh.
Earlier on August 28, Mr Bhagwat in his press conference had indicated that he had told the BJP brass that they should set their house in order and boost the sagging morale of the party cadre.
He had said he was confident that the party would tide over the present crisis.
However, BJP Spokesperson Prakash Javadekar had yesterday said not much should be read in these meetings regarding the demand for changes in the party leadership. He said the newspaper reports that the RSS had drawn up a succession plan, were absolutely baseless.
According to the reported succession plan, Ms Swaraj was tipped to replace Mr Advani as Leader of the Opposition, while Mr Jaitley was being seen as a replacement for party president Mr Singh.
Reports also said Mr Naidu might become leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha replacing Mr Jaitley.
Howver, Mr Javadekar said the party affairs were definitely discussed in the meeting with the RSS Chief, but no issue of anyone's resignation was raised.
It is now understood that the RSS wants a new face as party president.
