| DGP for formulating calendar activities of home guard volunteers | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, August 31: Detailed modalities were discussed for strengthening the Home-guards, civil Defence and Auxiliary Police at a high level meeting chaired by Director General of Police (DGP), Mr. Kuldeep Khoda here today. The meeting had threadbare discussion on the paper formulated by the committee comprising the Director General Prisons J&K and Inspector General of Police, Home Guards/Civil Defense and Auxiliary Police with a view to strengthen the activities of the Civil defence organization in the State. The power point presentation on the occasion was also made by Inspector General of Police, Home-guards, Mr. Gopal Reddy. Speaking on the occasion, the DGP said that the civil defence volunteers play an important role particularly during the natural calamities and reach out to people in distress and help them in launching rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations. Mr. Khoda stressed the need for chalking out the comprehensive calendar of activities for the civil defence volunteers so that their services are optimally utilized, especially during various public functions like Republic Day, Independence, Amarnath Yatra, different festivals and other such occasions. The meeting while taking stock of the activities of civil defence organizations of other states of the country, the DGP said that recommendations of the Committee would be sent to the government for its considerations. The main recommendations made by the Committee include enhancement in training allowance, engagement of voluntary home-guards round the year, creation of two more auxiliary battalions on the patterns of IRP/Armed police, removal of anomaly in sanctioned strength of auxiliary police battalions viz-a-viz armed battalions. Likewise institution of welfare and benevolent fund for home-guards, relaxation in upper age limit up to the maximum of 37 years with educational qualification as 8th pass having a continuous period of five years service as home-guard volunteer, creation of ten border battalions and establishment of civil defence training institutes at Srinagar and Jammu. Among others, the meeting was attended by Inspectors General of Police, Mr. S. M. Sahai, Mr. Dilbag Singh, Raja Aijaz Ali, Sheikh Owais, Mr. Mohammad Amin Shah, Mr. Zahoor Hussain Chisti, Dr. B. Srinivas, Mr. Ravinder Kotwal, AIG (Personnel) Mr. N. D. Wani, AIG (CIV), Mr. Nataish Kumar and other police officers.
