| Navratra festival-2006 | | Cultural procession draws big crowds | |
KATRA, SEPTEMBER 29 - Katra town is humming with festive activities during the ongoing Navratra festival by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Tourism Department in coordination with other departments and local associations of Katra town.
In the occasion of 6th Navratra a cultural procession was taken out from Asia Chowk Katra. The Senior Superintendent of Police Udhampur Mr P. R Manhas lit the jyoti. The one km procession after passing through main bazaar Katra Chintamani area, Dak Bungalow road culminated at Higher Secondary School Katra.
Large number of prominent citizens including SDM Reasi Mr Ajeet Kumar Sahu who is Nodal Officer of Navratra festival, Dy Chief Executive Officer SMVDSB Mr R. B Suri, Deputy Divisional Manger SMVDSB Mr Bodh Raj Khanna, President Shiv Kherdi Mandali Katra Mr Shashi Gupta, Papu Suri and Soni Sanmotra and other committee members of Navratra festival committee and large number devotees of Shri Mata Vaishno Deviji also participated in the procession.
In another event of the Navratra festival an all India Devotional Song Competition is being held daily in the Yogashram Katra. Miss Meenu atwal of Punjab, Mr Anoop Kumar of Reasi and Mukti Talwar of Kachi Chowni Jammu adjudged best singers prizes in shape of gold coin 10 gm, 5 gm and third prize worth Rs.1000 were given to the winners in order of their merit.
Earlier the competition started with lighting the jyoti by the chief guest.
Among others Additional SP Katra Mr M. L Mehra, Naib Tehsildar Katra Mr Sanjay Badyal, Station House Officer Katra Mr S S Samyal, Manger SMVDSB Mr Rajesh Sharma, President Hotel and Restaurant Association Katra Mr Sham Kesar, President Travel Agents Association Jammu Mr Rajinder Kotwal, President Indian Style Wrestling Association Mr Shiv Kumar Sharma, Mr R. s Manhas and Mr Harish Dubey committee members of Navratra festival were also present on the occasion.
In the Hassaya Bayang Programme, which started from yesterday in the Durga Bhawan Katra, 12 artists participated in the competition.
SDM Reasi (Nodal Officer Navratra festival) Mr Ajeet Kumar Sahu lit the jyoti to start the competition.
