| Create 10 border battalions to strengthen civil defence:Report | | | Early Times Report Srinagar , Aug 31 Creation of 10 border battalions and establishment of training institutes in Srinagar and Jammu are some of the key recommendations by the committee formed to suggest measures for strengthening civil defence in the state. Director General (Prisons) Ashok Bhan and Inspector General of Police Home Guards Gopal Reddy were members of the committee that presented its report today. Enhancement in training allowance, engagement of voluntary home-guards round the year and creation of two more auxiliary battalions on the pattern of Indian Reserve Police were some of the main recommendations of the committee that was set up last year, a police spokesman said here after a high-level meeting.The meeting, chaired by Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda, discussed modalities for strengthening the home guards, civil defence and auxiliary police, he said.Khoda said the recommendations would be sent to the government.The DGP said the civil defence play an important role particularly during natural calamities by reaching out to people and in launching rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures. He also stressed the need for chalking out a comprehensive calender of activities for them so that their services are optimally utilised especially during public functions and festivals.
