| J&K govt not serious on corruption: Independent MLA | | | Srinagar | Monday, Aug 31 Independent Member Sheikh Abdul Rashid today alleged that the state government was not serious to fight corruption and introduced a private members bill to amend Jammu and Kashmir Accountability Commission Act 2002 He, however, withdrew the bill after Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar assured him that chairman and other two members of the commission would be appointed soon and it would be given more teeth.Mr Rashid said it was unfortunate that the coalition government, which was raising slogans against the corruption, has done nothing against it. The government had promised that corruption would be eradicated from the society, but look what the Members are saying about the construction of Legislature Complex, he said. What is the use of this accountability commission and Human Rights commission which are without teeth and authority, he noted. ''We all are concerned about the corruption in the administration,'' the Minister said and promised to appoint chairman and other members of the commission within three months. He said the government has appointed a cabinet sub committee to examine how to make the commission more effective. Later, Mr Rashid withdrew the bill.
