| Issue of 24 seats reserved for PoK taken up in J&K Assembly | | | Early Times Report Srinagar | Monday, Aug 31 The issue of 24 seats reserved for the representatives of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) was raised in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today.
People's Democratic Party (PDP) Member Nizamuddin Bhat wanted to raise the issue of seats reserved for the 24 POK representatives during Question Hour. However, Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone directed him to raise the issue after Question Hour.
Immediately after the Zero hour started, Mr Bhat quoting Jammu and Kashmir constitution said 24 seats had been kept reserved for the POK representatives.
He said since the House, which has 89 members--87 elected and two nominated-- and there is just 101 seating arrangments. He said there should be 113 seats in the House, including 24 for POK.
However, Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather intervened and said the member could raise this issue since it was not in the business of the House.
He wanted to know from the Member under what rule he wanted to raise this issue.
Later, Mr Lone directed Mr Bhat to resume his seat.
Under the state constitution, there are 24 seats reserved for POK representatives in the House.
