| Cabinet panel to make employment policy | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 31: The government has constituted a Cabinet Sub-Committee (CSC) to come out with a comprehensive employment policy for the state, where all departments have been asked to furnish details of appointments made as daily wagers and casual labourers. The Government today gave a clear assurance to the Legislative Assembly that those appointed so far would not be disturbed. Replying to a question by People's Democratic Party (PDP) Member Abdul Rahman Veeri, Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather told Legislative Assembly in Srinagar that a CSC headed by him has been constituted to prepare a comprehensive policy. The CSC would meet on September 10 and submit the report very soon, he said. The Committee would go into the extent of the financial, legal and administrative problem that might arise in the regularation of casual and daily wage workers and work out appropriate policy. Any decision on this issue would be taken after the committee submits its report. Mr Rather said since there were complaints about irregularities in the appointment, he has written a letters to all departments seeking details about daily wagers and casual labourers working in their departments. ''I have asked them to give details who had appointed them, whether the officer was authorised to make such appointments, whether they were withdrawing salaries and from how long they have been engaged,'' Mr Rather said. He said some departments have responded, while others were yet to give reply.
