| Army chief plays down | | | Early Times Report New Delhi, Aug 31 : Admitting intrusion of Chinese planes into Indian airspace Army chief Gen Deepak Kapoor today played down the incident, saying it could have been due to navigational error. Commenting on the reported intrusion by at least two Chinese Army helicopters in Pangong Tso Lake in Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh region, Gen Kapoor said the intrusion did take place but may have been because of technical reasons and not necessarily purposeful. It could have been due to navigational error, he said. The intrusions by Chinese People's Liberation Army helicopters in June was noticed by the Northern Command troops based in Udhampur, who said the whole affair was for about roughly five minutes during which the copters dropped some canned food into the Indian territory, according to Army sources. The intrusions took place in the areas where India and China have differences over demarcation of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), they added. The fresh reports of intrusions in Chumar region come amidst government's denial of any recent Chinese PLA intrusion in Sikkim. Sources said such intrusions were a regular feature in this area, but often left unreported or 'covered up' with even Army accepting 'such happenings' in areas around the LAC where perception of the LAC differ.
