| Rs 39 lakh, cashier missing from JK Bank’s Bhaderwah branch | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 31: In yet another banking racket in the hilly Chenab Valley region, a bank cashier has been reported missing from his office and home with Rs 39 lakh deposits. This is third incident of its kind in the twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar in less than two months. Earlier, a bank branch at Kishtwar was found burgled of more than Rs 1.5 Crore and an insider hand was suspected. Recently, case distribution of fake currency to the customers also surfaced. Reports said that a cashier of Jammu and Kashmir Bank posted at Bhaderwah branch has gone missing allegedly along with cash of Rs 39 lakh, this afternoon. Official sources said that the bank officials noticed the cashier missing from his desk this afternoon and informed the Branch Manager. After waiting some time, the Bank management tallied the cash and found Rs 39 lakh missing. The cashier has been identified as Muhammad Iqbal Lone of Marwah tehsil in Kishtwar district. “Lone reported on duty today and was on the cashier desk till afternoon when he went out of the office for some work”, said Branch Manager of the Bank Mr Sharma. He added that matter was brought into his notice by the bank officials after Lone did not returned for more than two hours. As the sudden disappearance of Lone created suspicion, Branch Manager directed for verification of cash. “Rs 39 lakh was found missing and the matter was immediately brought into the notice of the concerned police officials”, he said. Police has registered a case in this regard and taken up the investigations. A case FIR No 131/2009 has been registered and a police team is investigating the matter.
