| State to take up afresh with centre migrant cash relief enhancement | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 1: The state Government will examine the demand put forth by sever al leaders regarding increasing the cash assistance being provided to Kashmiri Pandit migrants. After reviewing the demand the state Government, if it felt convinced, would recommend their case to the centre. The Revenue Minister, Raman Bhalla, today said that number of leaders of the migrants had met him and demanded that in view of the acute price rise in essential commodities their cash assistance be doubled from Rs.1000 to Rs.2000 per head per month. He said the demand would be reviewed in view of the implementation of the 6th Pay commission report. Bhalla has assured migrant leaders that he would discuss the issue with the central Government because grant of cash assistance came under the security related matters which had to be funded by the union Government The Revenue minister also indicated that the displaced families from Kashmir would feel suitably settled once the Prime Minister's package was fully implemented. He made it clear that as far as employment package was coer ned it had to be delinked from any reservation because under the const itution jobs cannot be reserved for a particular community. A way out has to be found so that displaced families felt encouraged in returning to Kashmir. He made it clear that displaced families will not be forced to return to Kashmir. He said 935 Pandit families had applied for return to the valley. The Minister said that Pandits needed a lot of persuation because if 935 Pandit families, out of 55,000 families apply for return to Kashmir it indicates that the Pandits continue to have fears which need to be shed.He wanted the Pandits to take advantage of the Prime Minister's Rs.1618 crore plan for the return of Pandit families to the valley.(eom) |
