One-day workshop of progressive farmers cooperative operators at Nimoo

LEH, SEPTEMBER 29 –The Cooperative Marketing Societies of Leh has sold vegetables, fruits, grains and fodder worth Rs. 5.50 crore during last year. The major customer was the Army.
This was disclosed at a one-day Workshop of Progressive Farmers and Cooperative Operators held at Nimoo last evening. The Workshop was organized by the National Fertilizers Limited in collaboration with Cooperative Department Leh.
The Deputy Commissioner Leh Mr. M. K. Dwivedi was the chief guest. Others persent on the occasion included General Manager National Fertilizers North Zone Mr. Amarjit Singh Kohli, State Marketing Manager Mr. Rramod Singh Khullar, Chief Agriculture Officer Leh Mr. Tsewang Dorje, Chief Horticultural Officer Mr. Sonam Narboo and senior officers of National Fertilizers and Scientists of SKUAST.
The Workshop discussed in detail the use of urea fertilizer and organic fertilizer for bumper produce. On the suggestions of the scientists and local progressive farmers, use of both organic fertilizer and chemical fertilizers for better produce of vegetables, fruit, grain and fodder in Ladakh. The workshop also recommended for soil testing for use of appropriate fertilizers. The National Fertilizers Limited promised to send Soil Testing teams to Ladakh at their own.
It was informed in the workshop that different cooperative societies in Leh district have sold vegetable, fruits, fodder woth Rs. 5.50 crore during last year and the major consumer was the Army.
The Deputy Commissioner said that Hill Council Leh is contemplating to constitute a Marketing Federation which would procure all the produce of Leh and regulate its marketing, adding that the Federation in, this way, redress the grievances of the local producers. He urged the farmers for concentrating on innovative farming for producing a good yield.
The Deputy Registrar Cooperative said that fertilizers worth Rs. 50 lakh was procured last year and sold all over Ladakh through cooperative societies. The General Manager National Fertilizers Limited apprised that over 33 lakh MT of urea was sold in the whole country last year production of bio-fertilizers was at its peak last year.
