Stone pelting, lathicharge at Science College, one detained, 6 injured

Jammu Sep 1: Demanding immediate establishment of Central University in Samba, the Degree College Students today turned violent during protest demonstration at GGM Science College.
According to reports the students of GGM Science College after boycotting their classes, assembled at college ground and under the leadership of Partap singh Jamwal marched towards the Main Gate and try to block it in support of their demand of establishment of Central University in Jammu
The things took an ugly turn when police personnel deployed outside the college in large number prevented the students to come out on Main Road which was resisted by the students and the police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the students. The students including activists of Central University Andolan Samiti turned violent and resorted to stone pelting on police personnel at Science College. The police cornered them from all the sides.
Police arrested one student named Gulshan Kumar during pitch battle which continued for half an hour, however, six students have suffered injuries during lathicharge and stone pelting. Out of six , two of them have got stitches.
The students lambasted Government for not taking the issue seriously and vowed to continue the struggle till Central University will not establish in full fledged manner in Samba where it has been sanctioned.
Six were today injured after police resorted to cane charge as they tried to come out from their college and hold protests demanding setting up of a Central University here.
A sweeper received severe injuries during the incident and has been hospitalized, official sources said.
While talking to Convenor CUAS, Paviter Singh condemned the brutal force used by the police force against the students protesting peacefully inside the college premises.
He warned the police administration and the government to not to restrain from taking such steps otherwise the students who are protesting peacefully will retaliate in aggressive manner and then it will not be possible for us to control them.
He also criticized the ruling Jammu based leaders in the government for having silence over the whole issue when from the last two monthsthe students have been suffering as there is continuous boycotting of the classes in the colleges.
