| Enhance emoluments of VDC members, SPOs: BJP | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 2- Showing concern over the plight of the members of the Village defence committee and special police officers engaged in fighting militancy several state BJP leaders on Wednesday urged the state government to enhance their monthly emoluments as rising prices have virtually broken their back bone. In a joint statement released here today BJP leaders from Doda and Kishtwar stated that VDC members are living in misery and finding it difficult to cope up with the rising prices and need immediate help. The BJP leaders said that after raising these VDC committees the government had sanctioned a monthly payment of Rs 1000 to each member. The amount sanctioned years ago has lost relevance and is not enough to take care of the basic needs of an individual, the BJP leaders stated in a press statement demanding urgent hike. BJP leaders Basant Raj Thakur, Shakti Parihar, Sunil Sharma and Tara Chand Parihar said members of the Village Defence Committees (VDCs) have been rendering their round the clock services in the militancy infested districts but they are being treated shabbily. The BJP leaders also expressed grave concern over the plight of the SPOs, who have been in service for more than 10 years and have not been regularized. They said different yardsticks are being adopted for different categories of employees. Why those SPOs, who have completed 7 years of service, are not being considered for regularization as is done in case of contractual /adhoc employees in different departments of the state. They said the government should treat all equally and regular all such people who have completed 7 years, irrespective of the department they are serving. The SPOs salary should also be enhanced from rupees 3000 to at least rupees 5000 so that they can support their families, demanded BJP leaders
