| VIPs use security guards for domestic chores | | |

Jammu,September 2 :-Majority of policemen,deployed on guarding the residences of political leaders,bureaucrats and other VIPs,in Jammu and Kashmir continue to simmer with discontent because of the poor facilities they have been getting while on duty.Number of policemen in the security wing of the police,today said that they have not been provided a cover for shielding themselves against the vagaries of weather. In several areas "we have to remain undr tattered t ents,"they said.
They said that the sizzling temperature in the Jammu region and the icey winds and snow make "our lives difficult and frustrating."It may be mentioned that in 2004 when Mufti Sayeed,headed the Government the Minister of state for Home,A.R.Veeri,had review the issue during his interaction with those deployed on providing security to VIPs.He had announced that he would submit a detailed report to the Government.
One police official said that "we do not know what happened to Veeri's report."He and others wanted that barracks be set up in areas adjacent to the houses of VIPs so that "we can sit there during duty shift." Some of them said that "though we provide security cover to the legislators,ministers,senior political leaders and bureaucrats we are not allowed to use their toilets or bathrooms." They said "we have to walk a distance of a mile or half to use some public toilets." They demanded that toilet facilities be provided to those on security duty.They also demanded special allowances as they have to do a difficult job of keeping a round the clock vigil.
A senior police officer said that most of those ourity duty were being provided food from the police canteens and trucks have been arranged for carrying cooked food to the areas where policemen are on security duty.He said that in several cases bureaucrats and some political leaders have been providing food and tea to their security guards.The officer,however,lamented that some of the political leaders and bureaucrats were miusing these policemen by using them for carrying out domestic chores.Some of them were being asked to work as domestic ser vants,cooks,gardners and even drivers.He said that a fresh review was being undertaken and wherever reports revealed that security men were being used for domestic work the security cover would be either r emoved or thinned to a large extent.(e
