Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 3 –The Central University Aandolan Samiti (CUAS) today served ultimatum to state administration and the police to change their attitude towards the agitating students by Monday as otherwise the students would be forced to adopt violent means to achieve its goal for establishment of Central University in Jammu region. The students are agitating for the last nearly two months and boycotting classes in support of the demand of establishment of CU in Jammu as already announced by the Prime Minister.
CUAS Co-Convenor Pushpinder Singh today condemned the brutal force used by the J&K Police against the students protesting peacefully in front of their colleges.
While addressing the media persons, Pushpinder alleged that the police was adopting oppressive measures to stop them from participating in the ongoing agitation against the shifting of the Central University from Jammu to Srinagar.
He alleged that cops deployed outside the colleges had been harassing the students and threatening them against participating in the agitation.” The agitation is a battle against discrimination and injustice and we will fight it out with determination,” he said and cautioned the authorities against adopting oppressive measures to stifle genuine voice of the students. Student leaders said that college had been turned into police colony and the cops deployed outside the main entrance were harassing all the students.
While questioning the arrest and lathicharge on peaceful agitators, Pushpinder wanted to know what crime was committed by these students.
He informed that a case has been registered against three students and also the members of CUAS namely Partap Singh Jamwal, Abhay Sharma and Sahil Chowdhary in Nowabhad Station.
He further added that the police are unnecessarily harassing the students by calling them in their homes and threatening them to surrender otherwise they will lift their one of the family members.
He also warned that in case Government continues its suppressive and oppressive measures the situation will worsen further as student’s sentiments have been hurt. "The Jammu people have tolerated injustice and discrimination for last 60 years and they can’t tolerate it any more now", he added. He said it is the government which has provoked the students to take up agitational path in order to get the Central University established in Jammu.
