Early Times Report
Jammu,September 3 :- A latest snap survey has indicated that Pakistan President,Asif Ali Zardari, has registered dowonward curve in his popularity graph during the one year he has been in office. The survey reveals that the popularity graph has gone down from 64 to 32 per cent.
When Zardari took over a year ago people had high hope that he would be instrumental in resolving various political, economic and security problems that the country was faced with. What seems to peev majority of people is that the Peoples Party led Government had failed to tackle the problem of unemployment which could be dangerous in a poor country like Pakistan.
Despite Zardari's success in sustaining the Government operations against the terrorists, which resulted in th death of the Taliban chief,Baitullah Mehsud, there has been no change in his sliding popularity graph.Analysts fear that if the political, economic and security scenario did not improve in the near future Zardari may lose power. However, these very analysts are not sure whether an attempt at ousting Zaradri will be made or not. They think that some fact or favour Zardari. This includes the unwillingness on the pat of the Army to stage a coup.Secondly Zardari continues to receive support from the US that needs bases for carrying out operations against the terrorists not only in Pakistan but in Afghanist an too.
The US Government is keen to finish its task in Afghanistan so that it would pull out th NATO troops from the mountain locked country. And in this task Zardari has proved a reliable ally which may not allow his opponents to try a coup against him.No doubt Nawaz Sharif has registered an upward curve in his popularity graph but he is not willing to do anything that could unseat Zardari.Possibly Nawaz Sharif wants to wait and see that the Zardari led Government falls ujnder the weight of its ommissions and commissions.
Whatever may be the survival chances for Zardari the decline in popularity vote may adversly affect the political structure of peoples party. Hence supporters of Zardari want him to assert his authority so that he was able to improve the country's economic, political and security structure. They want him to lead the campaign against corruption which has prevented people from witnssing the gains of some major development schemes.Above people will cheer him again if Zardari succeeded in promoting friendly relations with India so that the two nations could together carry out join operations against terrorists.(
