| Crime Branch rounds up land dealers for Karnala Chak fire | | |

JAMMU, SEP 3: Crime Branch Jammu is probing the much publicized Karnala Chack incident that rocked four months ago. The probe has been initiated on the direction of State government. Crime Branch was asked to probe the fire incident that broke out during clash between police and Gujjars and booked the persons involved in the land scam. Crime Branch is also directed to ascertain the reason behind the fire that broke out in the kullas constructed in and outside the encroached area. For the purpose a team headed by SSP Crime Branch JP Singh has been constituted.
Crime Branch has also sought documents from revenue and police for securitizations. SSP Crime Branch JP Singh when contacted said, “The revenue records of the Karnaila Chack land in question and the police details of the incident have been sought for further investigation”.
While as Crime Branch has rounded up two persons identified as Vijay Kumar alias Bilu and Jarnail Choudhary for their alleged involvement in the incident. The incident occurred on 9th May 2009 when police party along with forest officials appeared in Karnaila Chak, Satwari to vacate 775 kanal of forest land, the piece of land was encroached by some Gujjar families after constructing some kullas. Seeing police approaching nearer Gujjars resorted to stone pelting on the officials and in retaliation police also fired tear gas shells. In the ensuing clash various persons were injured. The worst sufferers were police men as a senior police officer; the then SP South Mubisheer Latifi and a constable Dildar Sharma received severe injuries.
While Gujjars rounded up Divisional Commissioner Office for compensation and action against police officers. Taking serious note, the government also cracked down on forest official and a senior police officer who earlier faced embarrassment at the hands of politicians at the site. The issue became much hyped and politicians left no stone unturned extract political mileage for their respective parties. Anyhow, with the intervention of crime branch it is believed that truth will come out in the larger interest of the common masses and the officials.
It is pertinent to mention that in the incident about 47 kullas were burnt, 25 from the encroached area and 23 from outside of the encroached area. Crime Branch is probing the incident to ascertain the reason behind the incident. Highly placed source in Crime Branch informed that department has got information that, Billu, a local in order to ignite clash got the 23 kullas burnt, compensation of which later demanded and Garnail Choudary is stated to be mastermind behind the incident. Crime Branch is probing the incident to reach in appropriate conclusion.
