| Affectionate farewell to justice Nirmal Singh | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 04- Bar Association Jammu today accorded farewell to Justice Nirmal Singh of Jammu and Kashmir High Court who is retiring on September 06, 2009 after attaining the age of 62 years. At a simple but impressive function President BAJ and senior advocate Sunil Sethi presented memento to Justice Nirmal Singh. He said Justice Nirmal Singh rendered all his life for the welfare of the society. Judges of the High Court, Presiding Officers of Subordinate Court and members of Bar were also present on the occasion. Born on September 6, 1947 at village Rampur, Tehsil Sirhind District Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, Justice Nirmal Singh enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh. He started practice at Bassi Pathana Sub Division from 1972 to 1979 and shifted to Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh in the year 1979-1980 and conducted Civil, Criminal and Revenue Cases. Worked as Assistant Advocate General, Punjab in 1980; remained Junior Standing Counsel for SGPC from mid -1981 to July 1983. On May 26, 1986 he was appointed as Additional District and Sessions Judge and posted at Amritsar, worked as District and Sessions Judge (Vigilance) Punjab from May 23, 1998 to October 7, 1999 and as District and Sessions Judge at Kapurthala from October 15, 1999 to May 23, 2000. He was elevated as Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court on May 25, 2000 and transferred to High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and assumed charge of office on March 18, 2005. Justice Nirmal Singh will be remembered for various landmark judgments. JNF
