| Mir releases books on Integrated Pest management | | |

JAMMU, Sept 4: A book release function was held at Jammu where Ghulam Hassan Mir, Minister for Agriculture Production, who was the chief guest released three books on Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
The first volume Integrated Pest Management: Innovation Development Process dwells on the research related to negative effect of the pesticide us on environment, its adverse consequences in agriculture and health hazards, the volume also deals with the development of different IPM tactics for reducing the use of toxic pesticides.
The second volume Integrated Pest Management: Dissemination and Impact describes various integrated pest management progammees to reduce the use of pesticides at the farm level. This volume also elaborates how bio-fuel production from maize and soyabean in the USA will reduce the economic threshold for pesticide use thereby increasing its use in the USA. The underlying concepts and methodologies of disseminating integrated pest management practices and their evaluation have also been discussed. The volumes have been authored and edited by Dr. Rajinder Peshin, Assoc. Professor, Agricultural Extension Education at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu and Dr. A K Dhawan, Professor of Entomology at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The third book authored by Dr. R. Peshin- Evaluation of Insecticide Resistance Management Programme: Theory and Practice, was also release by the Minster at the function. The book deals with the evaluation aspects of IPM programmes in India, its outcome and impact in reducing the pesticide use in the agriculturally most advanced state Punjab, where the pesticides use is the highest.
Prof. G R Bhagat, MLA R S Pura and Vijay Bakaya, MLC were the guests of honour. Prof. N A Nazki, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, SKUAST-Jammu presented the welcome address at the function. Dr. Rajinder Peshin made a power-point presentation of the contents of the books. The proceeding was conducted by Dr. Bakshi.
