| 654 security Coys in J&K | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Sep 4: As many as 654 companies of the central Paramilitary Forces, besides Jammu and Kashmir police and Army have been deployed in the state for counter-insurgency operations and other security related arrangements. However, 35 companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been withdrawn from different parts of the state after August 15, official sources said here today. However, no withdrawal was made from north Kashmir, including Baramulla. They said 519 companies of CRPF had been deployed in Jammu and Kashmir for counter insurgency operation, protection of vital installations and VIPs. Of them, about 400 companies are in the Kashmir valley, the most affected among all the three regions of the state. Sources said that 21 companies of the CRPF were recently withdrawn from the Kashmir valley. The process of withdrawing started after the August 15 speech of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, they said. However, these withdrawals were made from Central and South Kashmir, leaving other areas untouched. They said despite announcement made by the government that CRPF will be replaced by the state police in the town after firing on processionists left two youths dead on June 30, nothing has changed on the ground. CRPF remained deployed in the town for law and order and counter insurgency operations, a report from the town said today.
