JMC harassing us: allege Corporators

Jammu, Sept 4: The Corporators and Engineers were today seen dagger drawn against each other as pandemonium prevailed over 50th meeting of the Jammu Municipal Corporation.
Engineers have gone on strike alleging misbehaviour with them by a Corporator. However, many of the Corporators accused the Engineers of causing a hue and cry to deviate attention from the alleged misappropriation of Rs 2.9 lakhs at behest of a Minister. Corporators asked the Mayor Kavinder Gupta to initiate action against erring Engineers.
Today’s meeting was in continuation with the previous one but the Commissioner Mubarak Singh away. The Joint Commissioner assisted the Mayor and the Deputy but the situation remained on the boil.
In the previous meet corporator Pawan Singh had alleged that Joint Commissioner Works Bimal Tikoo along with some engineers in order to appease a cabinet minister laid down work in his area Satwari without updating him about the work. He also alleged that the project which costs Rs 2.95 lakh was actually had to be done by PHE and the JMC. He demanded an inquiry into the matter. Reacting to these allegations, the entire Engineering wing today remained on strike.
Uproar was also witnessed when Narinder Singh, former Mayor alleged that deputy mayor Dharamveer Singh Jamwal has installed cell-phone towers on his premises in violation of the laid down rules. Earlier Narinder Singh said that the JMC has adopted pick and chose policy and is harassing corporators on one pretext or other. All corporators in one voice supported him. Mayor assured to constitute a five-member committee for the purpose and said that action will be taken against those officers who so ever found guilty.
Corporator Jaswant Sudan demanded demarcation of boundaries of each coporator. While as corporator Chander Kumar Gupta of ward number 33 alleged carelessness on the part of JMC officers while preparing voter identity card. He alleged that his own name and house is wrongly mentioned in his voter identity card.He said that Rs 77 crore were spent for the purpose but only 10 percent voters identity cards are prepared that too full of mistakes and added acceleration of the speed of voters list as previous is full of mistakes for preparation of up coming corporation elections. Mayor also informed that JMC is expanding its limit as some extended areas are also included into it. Reacting to this Gandhi Nagar Corporator Bansi Lal Gupta said that JMC has failed to maintain the already existing wards then who was going to take care of new ones. He also alleged that some of the sanitary inspectors are sitting idle while others are overburdened.
Mayor further added that three news statues of Indra Gandhi, Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Justice Mahar Chand Mahajan shall be installed in the city shortly.
