| Danger sirens to alert people on Chenab water levels | | | Early Times Reports: RAMBAN, SEPTEMBER 05 -The Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mr K B Magotra today convened a meeting of officers of different department to discuss the preventive measures in view of the accident occurred on September 4, 2009, when the current waves of the river Chenab washed away the five persons including two students of Government Middle School Maitra, Ramban. The meeting was attended by MLA Ramban, Mr Ashok Kumar, SP, Executive Engineer, PDC, senior Manager NHPC, BHEP Officers, other revenue officers, president bar association, lawyers and senior citizens. In the meeting, the DDC discussed on installation of Sirens at five identified places namely Chanderkote, Jaiswal bridge Karol, Ramban-Maitra, Seri and in Dharmkund to make aware the people about the increase/decrease of water level of the river. He asked the SP to make announcements and inform the people about the increase water level in river Chenab particularly those living on the banks of rivers should be asked to refrain their children not to go near the river. He asked sign boards written in Urdu/Hindi and English languages should also be fixed at some identified places especially accident prone areas to aware the people not go ahead of wet area. It was also decided to made use of local cable network to inform the public well in time about the regulation of water level. In addition to this, the mobile teams comprising of police personnel should also be framed to warn the public of the eventualities of the current waves of the rivers Chenab. The meeting was also decided to involve the CRPF personnel in this regard so that no human loss will take place in the near future. Meanwhile, the DC assured the people about the compensation to the relatives of the victims.
