Manohar Vows to bring Billawar on tourism map

Srinagar, Sept 5: Minister of State for Higher Education, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma has said that State government is committed to ensure all round development of far off and hilly areas of the State. He said various initiatives in this regard have been initiated by Centre and State governments for States.

Addressing a massive public gathering at Mandli, Dr. Manohar said that various welfare schemes have been launched in the State for transformation of socio-economic condition of the people especially living below poverty line and people living on hilly terrains of the state. He asked the officers to aware the people through awareness camps about these welfare schemes so that they could take sufficient benefits by these schemes. He said under these schemes un-employed educated youth, skilled and unskilled persons could set up their income generating units and take benefits of financial assistance with subsidy component.


The Minister said that tourism potential of the area would be fully explored and scenic spots of Kathua districts especially of Billawar area would be brought on tourist map of the state for their development.

Responding to the demands of the locals, the Minister said that to mitigate the power crises in the district , a power/ receiving station has been constructed by involving Rs. 13 crore, 10 hand pumps stand sanctioned, 15 middle schools up-graded and 10 new Primary Schools opened, besides some cases have been recommended under IAY scheme. He said that rest of the demands including up-gradation of Government Schools of Moria and Khog, shortage of staff in Government higher Secondary School, drinking water, irrigation and power supply facilities, supply of ration, cleanliness along the roadside would be redressed soon.
