| Address of the town’s elite, Amar Singh Club falls victim to red-tape | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 5: The City of Temples, fast on the wheels of urbanization has very little spaces for socialising. It sounds ludicrous but fashionably true that the only evening address for the town’s social elite –the Amar Singh Club –has fallen a victim to the official red-tapism. By virtue of its constitution, the incumbent Chief Minister happens to be the President of the Amar Singh Club. This position of the Chief Minister is not just ceremonial but has much to with management of the Club. The Club’s management is comprised of 15 members (11 elected and 4 nominated) who together constitute the collegium for electing the Secretary. Secretary is the de-facto head of the Club’s management to look after its day to day affairs. It is been nine months that by way of intensely contested election, the Club chose 11 members of its managing committee. These members are grappling in dark for their roles as there is no Secretary yet. The only hitch in electing a Secretary is the absence of 4 nominated members to complete the Electoral College as required by Amar Singh Club’s constitution. Having these four vacancies filled is apparently something beyond control of the Club members. Reason: as per the constitution, these four members have to be the Chief Minister’s nominee. A cross section of Club members say that they have made repeated requests to the Chief Minister’s secretariat for fulfilling this formality but of no avail.
