Refrain from politicization of Guru’s case: Bhim
9/29/2006 10:55:27 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORTER
JAMMU | SEPT 29
Prof. Bhim Singh, Executive Chairman of the State Legal Aid Committee, J&K, and senior noted Jurist in the Supreme Court of India has appealed the politicians and the media to refrain from politicization of Afzal Guru’s case which is a legal issue and can be fought on the judicial platform alone to seek just remedy. Those who really feel that justice needs to be done or justice has not been done to Afzal Guru to take up to the judicial prudence, the strikes and street protests shall harm the interest of the person they intend to help.
The Justice delivery mechanism under the Indian Constitution is superb than any system in the world where a person has several stages to prove his innocence he said.
He said the decision of the Supreme Court is not final. The President of India has the power vested in him to pardon any convict if he is satisfied that there is any lacuna in the delivery of Justice. In the present case, wife of Guru has stated that she shall be making a mercy petition to the President. This is very genuine approach and must be appreciated. Each person or a political party should follow the rule of law in case they would like to seek justice, he added.
So far as the death sentence is concerned, Panthers Party Chief said that he has been advocating its abolition for thirty years. His bill in the Assembly and recently in the Council were turned down by the ruling parties in J&K. Life is the creation of God and God alone can take the life. A man cannot give life, so he has no right to take it, he said adding that he shall continue this battle till his success from every platform available to him from the legislature to the Apex Court.
