Exempt VAT on fertilizers: Farooq
NC organizes One Day Kissan Conference

JAMMU, SEPT 6: Union Minister and NC President Dr Farooq Adullah during One Day Kissan Conference said that it is upto Centre to decide over the establishment of Central University in Jammu.
Addressing gathering at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan Jammu, Dr Abdullah said, “ongoing movement for Central University has no meaning as it affects the future and career of students in Jammu”. ‘It will not work as it weakens the students who have to compete with the students of Bangalore, Madras, Delhi, Karnataka etc’, he added. He appealed the students not to fall pray to the forced misleading them over Central University Issue for their vested interests. Clarifying Party’s stand over the issue Union Minister said that National Conference is not a roadblock for Central University but it is Central Government to taken decision of establishment.
“Bhim Singh Ji Nai To Panch Lakh Dastkhat Leya Hai, Lagta Hai Ki Ek Hajar Khud Kya Hoge” I had learnt that Bhim Singh has collected five lakhs signature out which one thousands is of Bhim Singh’s self, Farooq said. Abdullah said that development and strengthening of farmers’ community is on priority of the NC. Government is committed to provide direct benefit to the farming community. He said that these people are willing to stand on their own feet thus making it imperative for the department and its officials to provide necessary support and backup to these people. “Peasant is major component of our society, ‘Kissan Mar Gaya, To Mulaq Marjayaga’, he said and adding country facing as many areas are facing wrath of drought, price of sugar touches new height.
“There is need to strengthen the farmers and till the farmers community is not given its due share at right time cultivation by formers will be stopped”, Dr Farooq maintained.
Commenting on problems of farmer community regarding VAT on tractors, pumping sets and fertilizers, he assured to provide possible help to farmers of Jammu and Kashmir and informed that he will talk to Finance Minister to exempt fertilizers from VAT.
Expressing full solidarity with the farmers whose land came under fencing and mining areas, the Union Minister asked the Government to compensate the farmers whose lands are in fencing and mining areas. He hailed the government decision to withdraw ban on Basmati export. Earlier, NC Kissan Cell Provincial Chairman Rajesh Bittu highlighted various problems and demands of farmer community and sought immediate resolution of their demands. He also submitted memorandum to Abdullah. Cabinet Minister S S Slathia, Abdul Gani Malik, Provincial President Rattan Lal Gupta, political advisor to Dr Farooq Mohd Aslam Goni and others also spoke on the occasion.
