| Fauji Mela gets underway in Rajouri | | | Early Times Report RAJOURI, SEPTEMBER 6 – Appreciating the commendable services rendered by the Army, Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah Sunday said that the role of army in defending the country and helping the civil administration during peace times has been laudable.
The Chief Minister was addressing the gathering after inaugurating a “Foji Mela” here at the air field, organized by 25 Inf. Division. The mela was attended by a large number of civilians and defense personnel including Ex-Servicemen.
The Chief Minister complemented the army for organizing the mela and said that the occasion will provide the opportunity to the public especially youth to know about the Indian Army and its role during the times of war and peace.
Mr. Omar praised the army for Operation Sadhbhavan and said that under this programme Army extends its stupendous help to the civilians and the administration in the developmental activities especially upgrading basic facilities in health, education and sports sectors in the rural and remote villages. He said the tours of students conducted by the army under Sadhbhavana Operation are highly beneficial for the students to know about their country, the culture and the people
The Chief Minister also distributed modified scooters among the disabled ex-servicemen besides handed over cheques of scholarships to the children of deceased armed personnel.
Earlier Chief Minister accompanied by Political Advisor to Chief Minister Mr. Davender Rana was received by GOC-in-C Northern Command. Lt. Gen. P. C. Bhardwaj, GOC 16 Corps Lt. Gen R. K. Swamy, DDC Rajouri, S Jaipal Singh and DIG Rajouri-Poonch range and other senior officers.
Mega events displayed in the mela included motor cycle display, horse show, and sky diving from the elite Special Forces personnel jumped from a height of 10,000 ft from Cheetah helicopters. Motor cycle display was performed by the Tornado team of ASC centre which hold the record in the Guinness Book of World Records for forming a human pyramid of 181 men on 11 motor cycles, culture show was organized by the Army persons showcasing the unity and proud culture of India duly assisted by the local school children of Rajouri.
Reacting to the violation of ceasefire Mr Omar said that the violation was one-sided and there was no retaliation from Indian side.
