Governor Confers Rajya Puraskar to scouts and Guides of Jammu

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 6 – The Governor, Mr. N. N. Vohra, stressed the need for giving further momentum to the Scouts and Guides movement in Jammu and Kashmir, by taking its activities to all nooks and corners of the State and bringing a much larger number of youth under its ambit.
The Governor, who is also the Patron of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, was addressing, after presenting the 6th Rajya Puraskars to 111 successful Scouts and Guides of the Jammu Division at the Award Presentation Rally held at Raj Bhavan, here today.
The First Lady, Mrs. Usha Vohra, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Mr. R. S. Chib, Minister for R&B, Mr. G. M. Saroori, Member of Parliament, Mr. Madan Lal Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. Varun Sahni, and Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Raj Kumar Goyal, were also present on the occasion.
The Governor observed that the Scouts and Guides movement, interalia, focuses on self-discipline, character building, team spirit, communal harmony, secular ethos, amity and brotherhood, which are imperative for peace, progress and prosperity of the State. He said that children are the future of tomorrow, who have to take forward the State on the path of prosperity and shape its destiny.
The Governor thanked the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, who is also the President, J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, for announcing a grant of Rs. 20 lakh out of his MPLAD Fund, for the promotion of its activities and recalled that he has already announced a grant of Rs. 2 lakh - Rs. one lakh each for Jammu and Kashmir Divisions - for promotion of the activities of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides in the State. He stated that additional resources, as may be required, could be provided for hosting a Scouts and Guides Rally in J&K. He hoped that the State Government would also suitably enhance the annual grant for the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, as indicated by the Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Mr. R. S. Chib.
The Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah felicitated the awardee Scouts and Guides and asked them to work hard for further strengthening national integration and brotherhood. Wishing the children a bright future, he said that they have to become model citizens of the country. He announced a grant of Rs. 20 lakh out of his MPLAD Fund for giving fillip to the Scouts and Guides activities in the State.
The Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Mr. R. S. Chib, speaking on the occasion, congratulated the Scouts and Guides, who got the Rajya Puraskars today, adding that it is a great moment for them, as it is the result of their hard work over a period of five years. He appreciated the skills displayed by the Scouts and Guides at the Puraskar Rally and assured adequate financial support from the Government for promotion of the Scouts and Guides activities in the State.
