| Nambardars/ chowkidars meet held | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sep 7: A meeting of the representatives of Nambardars/ chowkidars representing various tehsils and districts of Jammu province was held on Sunday at Jammu under the chairmanship of Gulchain Singh Charak, former minister. In the meeting it was highlighted that problems being faced by them include. Issue of proper identity cards. Inspite of government orders/ instructions the concerned Dy. Commissioner have still not issued proper identity cards in various areas. They appealed for urgent action by the concerned for issue of required identity cards immediately.
About duties of nambardars and chowkidars in their respective areas. Though the government had decided and announced various duties to be performed by these gross root institutions but it seems that these instructions and not being followed by the various departments at the grass root level. Proper orders need to be issued to the concerned.
Enhancement of honorarium. They are thankful to the government for the enhancement of their honorarium and extending other facilities also a year back but still waiting for the further enhancement by Rs. 1000.00 per months were announced by the then government w.e.f. Ist April 2009 and appealed to the hon’ble chief minister and revenue minister for taking immediate necessary steps this regard and issue of proper uniforms and other items due as per the government order, in respect of the chowkidars. Inspite of clear government orders and instructions, the uniform and other items due, are still to be issued to the chowkidars of various areas. They appealed to the govt to take immediate steps in this regard and get the need done at the earliest. Meanwhile, existing action committee was dissolved constituted an Adhoc committee of nambardars and chowkidars association was constituted. In which Sardar Singh, convenor, Baldev Raj, Madan Lal, Major Singh, Purkh Singh, Chaman Lal, Chowkidar Butta Ram, Chowkidar Dev Raj Verma were nominated as members.
It was also decided to hold one day convention in the month of November, 2009.
