Congress wants House in order
9/7/2009 10:45:55 PM
Early Times Report:
Jammu,September 7 :-Several Congress leaders, including those who are legislators and members of the Lok Sabha, are said to have conveyed to the party high command their fears over the activities of some dissidents bent upon weakening the organisation in Jammu and Kashmir. In this connection they have referred to the behind the scene activities of Abdul Gani Malik,Gulchain Singh Charak,Ch.Mohd.Aslam,Balwan Singh,Babu Singh and others.
The party high command, according to a congress minister, has been informed about the secret campaign these dissidents had launched against the PCC President,Saif-ud-Din Soz,and other PCC office bearers. The minister said that senior functionaries in the congress headquarters in Delhi had been told that these dissidents would have not been able to cr eate any problem for the Congress had not they been claiming to be receiving patronage from the union Health Minister,Ghulam Nabi Azad.
A large number of congress leaders from the two regions seem to be unhappy over the way these dissidents were trying to weaken the hold of the PCC chief on the organisation so that the Congress high command allowed Azad to interfere in the party matters in the state.A group of congress leaders that met senior party functionaries in delhi last month had apprised them of the machinations of Azad in trying to patronise dissidents from time to time which led to the weakening of the congress in Jammu and kashmir.
Two senior congress leaders, one in the council of ministers, said that right from 1990,when Ghulam Rasool Kar headed the PCC,Azad had been trying to promote dissidence to clip the wings of the PCC Chief. They said that Azad created lot of problems for Kar who was not allowed to function properly by the dissidents, pwing allegiance to Azad. These congressmen said that Azad adopted the same policy when Kar was succeeded by Mohd.Shafi Qureshi, Ch.Mohd.Aslam and Peerzada Mohd.Syed.
They even alleged that at present Azad was seen backing Ch.Aslam and Peerzada Mohd.Syed whose wings he had clipped when they headed the PCC.The union Healkth Minister was doing it to,they claimed,to "unseat" Soz who had r efused to play a second fiddle to Ghulam Nabi Azad.Another congress legislator said that these very dissidents had created an atmosphere in which one finds Ghulam Nabi Azad and Farooq Abdullah on one side of the fence and Saif-ud-Din Soz and Omar Abdullah on the other side.He said "we have been staunch followers of Azad when he headed the Government and we have requested the party high command to persuade Azad to avoid interferring in the party affairs in Jammu and Kashmir and stop giving any patronage to the dissidents which could damage the party st ructure."(eom)
