Compensation to bereaved families demanded
Governor, CM, others express grief over loss of lives in Assar road accident

Jammu, Sept 7- The Governor, N. N. Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has expressed profound shock and grief over the loss of precious human lives in a passenger bus accident at Assar, on the Batote-Doda road, today.
In his condolence message the Governor expressed his sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those who had been injured in this tragic accident.
The Governor emphasized the need for immediate measures to check frequent accidents in the State, particularly in the Doda region, and the most stringent punishment to the neglecting drivers.
Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah in a message issued here today has conveyed his heart felt sympathies with the bereaved families and prayed for early recovery of the injured. Chief Minister had directed the district administration and the health authorities to provide every assistance including treatment to the injured.
Expressing shock over the tragic mishap the Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand has assured the affected families that due ex-gratia would be provided to them urgently.
Expressing shock over the tragic road accident, Provincial President National Conference Rattan Lal Gupta pointed out that for the past three months more than four hundred innocent people have lost their lives.
Gupta demanded compensation of Rs. 5 lakhs for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the accident. Meanwhile, Chaman Lal district president Ramban has been directed to rush the spot and asses the situation besides extending help to the affected family Gupta said.
BJP State President Ashok Khajuria, while expressing shock over the tragic bus accident,
has said that such accidents have become a matter of routine. The government has not learnt any lesson from the past accidents; he said adding that it also exposes its concern for the precious lives of the people.
Demanding a white Paper, Ashok Khajuria said that the government should constitute a team to look into the causes of occurrence of such accidents after gap of few days. He said every government is duty bound to protect the life and property of its citizens and the state government can not escape its responsibility.
The BJP Chief also demanded adequate compensation to the families of the deceased persons and treatment expenses of all the injured people be born by the state government besides giving job to at least one member of those killed in this accident.
Peoples Democratic Party Patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and President Mehbooba Mufti has also expressed deep shock and grief over the tragic accident at Assar and conveyed their deep sympathies with the members of the bereaved families and also prayed for the eternal peace for the departed souls.
The PDP leaders alleged that government has failed to take preventive measure to avoid reoccurrence of such tragedies on roads. They pointed out since January this year a large number of people have lost their lives due to road accidents in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts but nothing concrete has been done so far to prevent such mishaps in this belt.
Khalid Najib Suharwardy MLC was the first to reach the spot and immediately pressed the District Administration machinery for rescue operations and personally monitored the shifting of injured for first aid and life saving treatment.
Expressing concern over the tragic mishap, Suharwardy said the working of Beacon in the erstwhile District Doda is disappointing and the progress is at snail’s pace and even the BEACON has been constructing a road opposite to Doda at 90 degree which is against all norms of engineering that too in a fragile zone. This road is hazardous for the people decoding this as death trap after spending corers of rupees by the BECON.
Meanwhile, Dr. Rehmatullah Vice President (Central) National Conference District Doda has also expressed sorrow and grief on this unfortunate accident and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families.
Expressing his deep shock over the accident the Former Minister and sitting MLA Bhaderwah Mohammed Sharief Niaz has demanded grant of ex-gratia relief to the next kin of bereaved families and free treatment to the injured passengers. He has urged the state government to impose ban on old passenger buses and use of mobile phones by the drivers. He also demanded deployment of SRTC buses in the hilly Doda district.
The Ministers including AR Rather, Qamar Ali Akhoon, Nowang Rigzin Jora, Peerzada Mohammed Sayed, Raman Bhalla, Mian Altaf Ahmed, Abdul Gani Malik, G M Saroori , Nasir Aslam Wani, Aijaz Ahmed Khan and Shabair Ahmed Khan and MLA Doda, Abdul Majid Wani, MLC, Naresh Kumar Gupta, PDP general secretary Thakur Balbir Singh and party MLC Sayeed Asgar Ali have also expressed their shock over the tragic bus accident at Assar.
