Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 7- Making a mind to intensify the ongoing movement for Central University, the spearheading group Central University Andolan Samiti (CUAS) announced to stage protest dharnas at different district headquarters on September 14.
Announcing this in a press conference here today, Convenor, CUAS, Paviter Singh said, “As the State Government particularly Chief Minister has adopted silence over the Central University issue, we has decided to go more vigorous over this matter thus decided to hold protest dharnas and rallies at districts headquarters on September 14”.
“It is matter of happiness that leaders from Congress, BJP, PDP and other political outfits have extended their support to the CUAS and stands united on establishing Central University in Jammu”, he said .
He once again called upon the leadership of Jammu region to support the present agitation and said that the agitation will continue till written commitment is given by the government.
Commenting on the statement of union minister Dr Farooq Abdullah that it is up to Centre to decide where CU has to be established, Singh questioned that who identified the land at Samba and who had constructed bore-well there
He informed that in yesterday’s meeting the Samiti has passed a resolution for establishing Central University in Jammu which was supported by political parties and social organizations. The resolution will be submitted to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and HRD Minister Kapil Sibel, CUAS Convenor said.
Raising questions over Chief Minister’s silence over the matter, Paviter Singh said, “I think CM is afraid from PDP in taking decision over CU issue but I want to clear him that PDP never demanded Central University for Kashmir which clear from the fact that PDP MLAs and senior leaders have supported CU to Jammu during yesterday meeting”.
