| World Literacy Day celebrated at SOS Balgran | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, SEP 8: People's Association for Social Reforms & Justice (PASJ), a social & self aided organization, continuing with its free service and selfless work for the society organized a function at SOS Home, Balgran, at Channi Rama on the occasion of WORLD LITERACY DAY falling on 8th Septemberevery year, started by UNESCO in 1965. The purpose of organizing the function by PASJ was to bring awareness about the importance of being literate in present era and to raise awareness about the problem of illiteracy prevailing in our country. On this occasion, S. Rissam (Chairman, PASJ) distributed stationery items like notebooks, pen, pencil, rubber, sharpeners etc to all the children living in the SOS home. While addressing the children he emphasized on the importance and benefits of being a literate person in present era. He urged all the students to try to learn as much as they can in their life, because in life education is the only wealth which no one can take from them through out the life. He emphasized that ideal system of education is the backbone of democracy. He also thanked the central govt. for having started SARV SHIKSHY ABHIYAN under which various backward and far flung areas of the state as well as the country are being covered for spreading education. S.N. Sharma (Secretary, SOS Home) thanked PASJ & welcomed the effort of PASJ taken on the occasion of WORLD LITERACY DAY. Other members present on the occasion were Sandeep Singh (President, PASJ), Anirudh Gupta(Vice President, PASJ), Amrinder Singh, Varun, Jagjyot Singh, Satwant Singh, Rajinder Kumar, Jagandeep. Special invitees were Prof. K.D. Singh and Santokh Singh (Komal).
