| Finally, Omar lands in Shopian | | No peace until culprits brought to book | | Early Times Report; Shopian, Sept 8: In his visit to Shopian after months of crises over double rape and murder and a blind investigation yielding no results, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today found a sizeable audience and declared that there is no personal peace for him till the culprits were brought to book. “We don’t hang (as permitted by law) people in Jammu and Kashmir but I personally prefer recommending the extreme punishment for the culprits responsible for taking away lives of Nelofar and Asiya”, Omar said at Kreva Zora village and reiterated that the government would put in every effort and employ any agency to dig out the truth and punish the criminals behind the murder of innocent girls. “I have come here to reassure you of my determination to give you justice by punishing the culprits”, said the Chief Minister. It may be mentioned here that earlier last month the Chief Minister had put off his Shopian visit after the locals observed a shot down to lodge their protest against government’s failures in bringing the double rape and murder guilty to book. He said that he is ready to rope in CBI or any powerful agency to probe into the incident and get the criminals behind this inhuman act. “From the day first I tried my best to unearth the facts and book the murders. The constitution of Justice Jan Commission was the immediate step in this direction”, he said and added that all means would be put in place to identify the culprits and bring them to book. Omar said his government has announced an award of Rs. 20 lakh for anyone wh o provides vital clues leading to the arrest of the culprits and he said that identify of anybody giving these clues will be not disclosed. He appealed to the people of Shopian to come forward and help the government in identifying the culprits so that they can be given exemplary punishment. Referring to the development demands presented to him o n the occasion in the ‘Supas Nama’ (Welcome Address), the Chief Minister said that the government is committed to upgrade the basic facilities and ensure equitable development in all areas. “Whatever promises we have made to people during the electioneering we are committed to fulfill all those in a phased manner”, he said. Omar responding to the demand for re-chri stening the village as ‘Shadab Village” said that he would get the case examined and put up to the Cabinet for approval. He also said that he will ask Minister for Rural Development make the case for granting model village to the Kareva Zora for faster development. He passed directions for exploring possibilities of Girls Middle School in the village. Earlier, Mr. Omar was warmly received by the large enthusiastic crowd chanting slogans and waving banners and flags of greetings to the Chief Minister. He was also took to the site of public meeting in a procession.
