| Jammu to get first super-specialty hospital by 2010’ | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 9- To provide better health care facilities to the people, Jammu will have its first superspeciality hospital by March 2010. The project is estimated to cost Rs.120 crore. ''The superspeciality hospital will have multi facilities for the treatment of three diseases and it will also help in bringing down the chaos at the existing hospital building of Government Medical College,'' R S Chib, Minister for Medical Education told reporters at a press conference here today. Making a stiff stand to streamline Health Department, Chib on Wednesday announced that Super-Specialist Emergency in GMC shall be made functional for general public by February-March 2010. While assuring to provide better medical facilities to the people, the minister said that new super-specialist emergency in GMC Jammu will be ready to serve the people in Jammu which will be ready by the end of 2010. “The super-specialist emergency will have six super-specialist faculty dealing with Heart, Nephrology, Neurology, Medicine and Surgery while the existing faculties available in Government Medical College would be enhanced and upgraded to the level of super-specialists”, the Minister added. Referring to the shortage of doctors and paramedics, the Minister said that presently there are 4332 vacancies of Doctors and paramedical staff in the state which would be soon advertised so that doctors and paramedical staff are recruited at the earliest. Describing the Emergency Ward as a ‘fish market’, the Minister took serious notice of doctors who were deviating the dress code and warned stern action against those found without proper uniforms. He said that he had visited the Hospital yesterday and found it like a fish market with attendants roaming here and there. He also took serious note of non availability of roaster system in the hospital and directed the hospital authorities to display the same in the hospital. “I will not allow the Hospital to work like a Railway Station or fish Market and will see that the decorum of the Hospital will be followed by administration and member of the staff”, he cautioned. He also warned that he will not tolerate dereliction of duties by doctors and para-medical staff adding that it is the responsibility of Hospital administration to maintain the decorum. “I have clearly informed the doctors and staff, as far as their duties towards patients is concerned, that I will not tolerate any dereliction”, he stated. “I am committed to streamline Health Department and without cooperation of the doctors and other staff it is not possible for me to fulfill my commitment’, he said and sought cooperation of the para-medical staff and doctors to provide better Medicare facilities to the people. “The shortage of doctors and paramedical staff is a major hurdle resulting into huge burden on existing doctors and paramedical professionals and general public becomes sufferer out of this”, he said announcing, that ‘Contractual appointments being a faster process will soon help hospitals reduce burden on the staff’. “I am allowing Principal GMC to recruit reasonable para-medical staff on contractual basis to meet the requirement”, he stated. He also announced to constitute a committee of prominent citizens to assess the improvements taking place in the GMC Hospital. When he asked about Government’s preparation on Swine Flu in Jammu and Kashmir, he said “under the guidelines of Union Health Ministry, we have already established two surveillance centres in Jammu and Kashmir, besides conducting proper checking at airports’. Earlier, the Minister inaugurated Ultra-sonic Machine at ICU ward. Principal GMC Dr Rajinder Singh and senior professors of GMC were also present at the press conference.
