| IIMC branch for J&K | | | Early Times New Delhi,September 9 The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ms Ambika Soni, has announced that the Centre would open four new Indian Institute of Mass Communications, including the one in Jammu and Kashmir. The Minister stated this in her convocation address at the IIMC here yesterday. She said that this would take the total number of the IIMCs in the country to six. Thus far only two IIMCs function from Delhi and Dhenkanal in Orissa. The Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir in the North and Mizoram in the East have been selected for an IIMC each while the other two would suitably be located in other regions to give access to aspiring media professionals enhanced opportunities nearer their place of residence. She also assured that IIMC Delhi would be upgraded to the standard of an International Media University with better and increased faculty, and research and reference facilities. The Tuesday’s announcement by Ms Soni about the plan for the new IIMCs, would add to the Central Univiersity and Indian Institute of Management for Jammu and Kashmir as the last two have already been announced by the Central Government for Jammu and Kashmir. Whereas the CU and IIM are yet to become fully functional, the Tuesday’s announcement by the Minister about the IIMC may still take some more time, as according to her, this has now been put on the plan for near future. She did not specify as to when the new IIMCs would start functioning whether in Jammu and Kashmir or their other locations. En
