cement seized, 3 held

Jammu, Sept 9: Domana police, on the outskirts of Jammu City, have busted sub standard cement bags racket and arrested eight persons involved in the illicit trade.

Superintend of Police Rural Mohan Lal when contacted termed it as a part of drive against adulterators and profiteers. Domana police led by SHO Bishnesh Kumar and SDPO Devakar Singh received an information from the reliable sources some persons are selling sub standard cement at the rate of superior cement and accordingly a raid under the supervision of SSP Jammu Manohar Singh and SP Rural Mohan Lal was conducted in a shop situated in the Thathad, Ploura area and arrested the persons identified as Samar Singh son of Tej Ram resident of Mahanpur Kathua at present Barnai, Ajay Manhas and Sonu resident of Barnai.

During their questioning they confessed that they indulged into selling of sub standard cement at the rate of superior cement. They used to purchase local made cement of ‘Rajashtan Cement Extra Power’ brand at the rate of Rs.190 per bag and then refill this sub standard cement in the second hand empty bags of renowned brands of Ambuja and ACC and sell this cement to the whole -sellers in District Doda.

The whole-sellers have been identified as Azad Cement Store near Bus-stand Kishtwar and Nazir Mehmood Cement Store at Baderwah near Laxmi Naryan Temple. They used to supply the said sub standard cement in the bags of branded companies at the rate of Rs 310/- per bag. They further told that they were also supplying the sub standard cement with the assistance of other persons in different stores located in Domana area.

SP Rural informed that the accused used to sell this sub standard cement to the general public in Jammu at the rate of Rs300 per bag. Police have raided all the shops/stores disclosed by the accused and have been able to recover 600 filled and 1600 empty bags of Ambuja/ACC brands of cement which were yet to be filled. Three Trucks bearing Reg Nos JK02S/6166, JK02AF/0997 and JK02G/9522 are seized from the spot.Eight persons arrested so far have been identified as Samar Singh s/o Tej Singh r/o Mahanpur, Kathua A/P Barnai,Prem Pal s/o Tilak Ram r/o Bareli U.P A/P Thathar Jammu,Des Raj s/o Banwari Lal r/o Bareli U.P A/P Thathar Jammu, Roshan Lal s/o Babu Ram r/o Jasrota Raj Bagh Kathua, Imtiyaz Ahmed s/o Wazir Mohd r/o Daki Mendhar Poonch, Ishtiaq Ahmed s/o Mohd Javed r/o Sunderwani,Sham Lal s/o Sansar Chand r/o Karwanda Jammu, Raja Ram s/o Ram Pal r/o Jasrota.A case under FIR No. 213/09 u/s 420/RPC, 6/13 HP Act stands registered at P/S Domana. The accused persons are being put to sustained interrogation to know more about their modus operandi and other associates who are indulging in this illegal trade. Police parties have been launched to arrest the absconding associates.
