| DyCM patronizing corruption: Madan | | | SUMIT SHARMA
Jammu, Sept 9: Accusing the Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand of patronizing misappropriations through his officers, his rival within the party and Congress Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma has alleged that the Department of Housing and Urban Development has become a den of corruption.
Speaking over phone from Delhi, Madan Lal Sharma told Early Times, “if the level of corruption is allowed to go on the pace with which it is going, the day is not far when Chambers of the bureaucrats and ministers in the Secretariat too will be found sold out”. Cautioning the Chief Minister to take care of his personal belongings which somebody might put on sale, Madan said that the corruption has political patronage.
Making a pointed attack on the party colleague and Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, the Member of Parliament said that prime premises in the public buildings, owned by various agencies of the Housing and Urban Development Department, have been sold out to the private parties. He referred to the alleged let out of a ticket counter and a corner which earlier houses a water cooler at the Jammu bus stand, which is owned and managed by the Jammu Development Authority, an agency of the Housing and Urban Development Department. He questions, “is the Deputy Chief Minister unaware of all this?”
When asked about the development in Jammu he said that development can be best judged once again in the Jammu bus stand where the ticket counter of Jammu-Kathua route is sold out at Rs 28 lakh and further in an ambiguous way he said that hefty amount sanctioned for development and beautification of park along the river Tawi has been siphoned off. “These public works will never see completion as funds meant for them have already reached the boxes of corrupt politicians and officers”, Madan told Early Times. |
