Jammu, Sept 9: The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu, who has kept himself inaccessible from scholars and students ever since he joined here, today had to face confinement, not fully solitary, for more than four hours as a group of students locked him inside has chambers.
Gross indiscipline and lawlessness at University once again knocked the doors of an inept Vice Chancellor after a high drama when a group of protesting students locked down VC Prof Varun Sahni and Panthers party general secretary Anita Thakur for nearly fours hours.
It all happened when Anita Thakur, Panthers Party leader and close aide of Prof Bhim Singh, visited the Vice Chancellor’s office to lodge a complaint against an estranged student leader of her part Mohinder Singh Pandu. Pandu was until recently president of the student wing of Panthers Party. Anita alleged that he had assaulted, Suresh Sharma who is at present heading Panthers students wing in Jammu University. Pandu was removed as the head of student wing after he had extended his support to the Central University Andolan Samiti.
Sources said that large number of protesters led by Mohinder Singh Pandu, Virender Singh Chib and Vikas Sharma locked down both of them along with Dean Students Welfare (DSW). Later on the intervention of police and University security staff the students lifted dharna and allowed VC and other members to come out of the room.
Sources said that the trouble started in the morning when elections to elect the Department Representative (DR) for the Dogri department were being conducted and there was minor clash between the students on trivial issue. However none of the officials from the Jammu University was available for the comment.
Meanwhile a security guard, Balbir received injuries when he attempted the activists of National Conference Students Union (NCSU), to enter the campus. The NCSU activists had taken out a rally to celebrate the appointment of Rahul Sharma as provincial president of NCSU.
According to the eyewitnesses, the guard asked the activists to clear the way as students as well as other staff is having trouble, which resulted in minor scuffle, during which the guard was injured.
