| JKPP for early Panchayat elections in J&K | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 10 Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Parishad (JKPP) today appealed the Government to hold Panchayat Elections at the earliest which are due since long in Jammu and Kashmir. Talking to media persons here today, Satya Prakesh Thakur, former Minister HP and vice president, All India Panchayat Parsishad said that for the empowerment of the Panchayat Raj institutions, the state government should transfer all the powers to their elected bodies forthwith as per Panchayat Raj Act including transferring revenue and resources planning and implementation of the elected Panchayat Raj bodies of various levels as provided in by the 73rd constitutional amendment. Thakur said there is an urgent need to hold indirect election of sarpanches by the panches for better performance of Panchayat as per the procedure adopted in the elections of other democratic institutions. He informed that JKPP has been creating awareness among the masses about the role and importance of Panchayat Raj Among others present at the press conference included Nisar Ahmed Khan, former minister, J&K and patron JKPP and Jugal Krishore Gupta, president, JKPP.
