| Seminar at Rajouri | | Self Rule envisages bringing lasting peace in J&K: Khan | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Sept 10- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Shahzad Khan has emphasized that unification of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir on economic, social, cultural and environment front, as envisaged in the ‘Self Rule’, will bring ever lasting peace and tranquility in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a seminar organized on self rule in Rjauouri today he reiterated that Self-Rule provides a pragmatic and achievable framework for an amicable solution of Kashmir issue. It aims at creating Jammu and Kashmir as a bridge between India and Pakistan and both the countries would offer tariff reductions and develop this belt as Regional Free Trade Area, he added. The problem of Jammu and Kashmir, he said, cannot be resolved on the basis of exclusively Intra- State level initiatives rather it requires a combination of Intra-State and Supra-State measures. This approach which is underling the concept of Self Rule, is a practical way that would eliminate the sources “of ethno-territorial conflicts entrenched in the traditional notional and ethnic borders” he stated. Khan also said that the road map provides provision of a Regional Senate. Members of the Regional Council will be from Jammu and Kashmir as well as from Pakistan administered Kashmir. This will ensure long term coordination of matters and interest relating to the state. Assuring the people of fulfilling their regional and sub-regional aspirations, he said, “Promotion of genuine sub-regional political and economic empowerment is certainly one of the crucial components of Self-Rule. Terming Self Rule proposal as realistic and practical solution to address both external and internal dimensions of Kashmir problem, the senior PDP leader said that in the given situation this is the best possible solution which is formulated by accommodating aspirations and wishes of all stake holders. Among others who spoke on the occasion included Capt. Muzaffer (Retd.), Haji Bashir, Haji Gani, Mirza Abib, Jahangir Khan, Tahir Lone and Amandeep Singh.
