Early Times Report Srinagar, Sep 10 : Admitting that Jammu district got highest 1,252 appointments followed by Srinagar district 983 out of total 8,810 recruitments made in nine Indian Reserve Police (IRP) battalions in the Jammu and Kashmir, a police spokespersons said that posts are being distributed among all districts on population basis as per census of 2001.
However, after creation of four more districts--Samba, Reasi, Ramban and Kishtwar-- Udhampur, Jammu and Doda districts suffered a loss in allotment of posts in Jammu region while in Kashmir valley Anantnag, Pulwama and Baramulla district lost seats after creation of Kulgam, Shopian, Bandipora and Ganderbal districts.
The spokespersons in a statement said for raising four IRP battalion--11th to 14th--, out of 4,000 posts of constables, Jammu district was alloted 627 against the population of 15.66 per cent.
However, in five more IRP battalion, comprising 4,810 posts of constables, Jammu district got 625 seats against the population of 12.99 per cent after some of its areas went to newly created districts.
He further said the posts were distributed as per available according to census of 2001 when Jammu province constituted 44.27 per cent population while Kashmir province, including Ladakh, 55.73 per cent.
Srinagar district followed Jammu, getting 983 posts followed by Baramulla 858, Anantnag 814, Kupwara 559, Badgam 521, Udhampur 515, Pulwama 482, Kathua 460, Doda 427, Rajouri 414, Poonch 320, Kulgam 181, Samba and Reasi 168 each, Bandipora 138, Kargil 101, Leh 100, Shopian and Ganderbal 98, Ramban and Kishtwar 88 each.
