| Panthers accuse BJP , Congress of playing double –trick on CU | | | Early Times Report
Jammu,September 10:- Why did not the Panthers Party leaders, including its three MLAs,attend the meeting organised by the Central University Andolan Samiti (CUAS) held in Jammu recently ?This question has assumed significance after the Panthers Party has been in the forefront of the ongoing agitation against delay in setting up one central university in Jammu.Inside reports said that the Panthers Party leaders have become apprehensive of the dual role the Congress and the BJP leaders and legislators belonging to the Jammu region have been playing. In this respect the party vicechairman,Harsh Dev Singh, today explained the reason behind staying away from the meeting convened by the CUAS in Jammu. He said that for him and his party colleagues there was no need for "us to establish our credentials on being vocal supporters" of central university being set up in Jammu. He said in the meeting the congress and BJP leaders had supported the Samitis stand on the issue but these very leaders, belonging to the congress and the BJP,did not raise the central university issue during the district development Board meetings. Harsh Dev,while accusing the BJP and the Congress leaders, including ministerial colleagues of Omar Abdullah,of duplicity as they did not raise the issue when district development Board meeting for the Jammu district was held in the state's winter capital. He said even during the Board meetings of the districts of Kathua and Samba neither the Congress nor the BJP leaders raised the central university issue. Harsh claimed that he was the first political leader from Jammu who raised the issue during the Samba district development Board meeting. He said it was an irony of fate that vast chunks of land had been identified in Samba for the proposed central University but the congress and the BJP leaders remained silent on the issue during the Board meeting. He said when he raised the issuie,to the discomfiture of the Chief Minister,no Congress and BJP leader supported "me." He said it was his persistence in raking up the issue, despite Omar Abdullah's assertion thgat the issue could not be r aised during the Board meeting, that the Chief Minister had to announce that the central university will first be set up in Jammu and then in Srinagar. While blaming the BJP and the Congress for adopting dual policy on the issue Harsh Dev accused the National Confer ence led coalition Government of having caused the confusion thereby adding to the r egional tension on the issue. He said during the annual convocation of Jammu university prime Minister,Manmohan Singh, had hinted that the central university will be set up in Jammu and the IIM in Srinagar. The original plan,Harsh claimed, had been tampered with by the ruling coalition to keep its vote bank intact in Kashmir
