2 Armed Batallion Hqs for Rajouri , Poonch

Srinagar September 10- Two Battalion Headquarters of Armed Police are being set up in Rajouri and Poonch districts for further deployment to assist local police in law and order, counter insurgency and other day to day security duties.

IGP, Armed J&K Mr. Dilbag Singh conducted a two-days visit of the area and inspected suitable places for establishment of battalion headquarters. One battalion headquarter would come up at Behra, Mendhar in Poonch and other near Rajouri town so that additional police force could be available to the district police on regular basis for all kinds of duties. Special emphasis would be laid on assisting the district police in the counter insurgency operations.

During the visit IGP Armed inspected deployment of Armed Police in Mendhar, Surankote, Rajouri, Darhal, Sunderbani and Nowshera areas. At all the locations, the officers/ men were briefed about the added responsibilities of Armed Police and they were conveyed facilitions of the DGP J&K for outstanding performance in law and order, Lok Sabha/ Assembly elections and Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra duties in the recent past.

The IGP also held the Darbar of the nafri at Draba,Poonch and Fatehpur, Rajouri where adhoc arrangements for two battalions were made. The Officers/men presented their welfare and duty related isues which were considered to be genuine and action would be taken soon to ensure better performance of duties and better welfare of the Armed Police manpower. The officer/men in the darbar were briefed to keep their good workup for early restoration of full normalcy and peace in the State. They were asked to be firm in performance of duties and extend all required assistance to the local police as entire police force is one and all uniformed personnel are working for the same cause. They were also asked to be very considerate and extend help to the old, infirm and women folk whenever they need any help.

Some Civic Action Programmes in the interest of welfare of local people living around Armed Police Complexes have also been identified and will be taken in hand shortly after approval from PHQ,J&K. Commandant JKAP 9th and Commandant JKAP 5th Bn. Were asked to personally monitor such Civic Action Programmes so that maximum benefits accrue to the locals.
