| KU employee saves two tourists from drowining in Lidder Pahalgam | | | Early Times Report Srinagar | Friday, Sep 11 2009 IST Risking his life, a 35-yea-old employee of Kashmir University (KU) saved two children of a tourist from drowning in fast flowing river Lidder in Pahalgam. A spokesman for the KU said here this afternoon that Vice Chancellor Riyaz Punjabi had decided to recommend his name for a bravery award for saving the lives of the children. He said Aijaz Ahmad alias Sikander had accompanied a team from the department of bio technology Government of India to Pahalgam.Dr Sumon Govil advisor Human Resources Development (HRD) division Department of bio- technology, one of the team members, said that two children fell into the river Lidder at Pahalgam.However, Sikander, without caring for his life, immediately jumped into river and rescued both the children from drowning. Mr Govil in a communication to Prof Punjabi urged him to recommend his name for the bravery award. The spokesman said Sikander injured his limbs and shoulder in the process of saving the children. Head of the Department of bio technology Pof Khursheed Indrabi and Registrar KU Prof Syed Fayaz termed the act as highly courageous and recommended the case to Prof Punjabi for recognising it as an act of bravery.
